Winter Tour to Gilgit-Baltistan

North Pakistan especially the Gilgit-Baltistan region has a lot of potentials to generate revenue in the sector of Tourism. Although most of the tourists visit in summers but has a lot of scenes to capture in the winter season too. Gilgit-Baltistan is the hub of the highest mountains in the world.

Adventure Tourism

Gilgit-Baltistan can host many types of adventure tourism. The region is among the coolest places in the world. Many winter sports like Ice hockey, Ice football, skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding can be arranged here in the winters. The Gilgit-Baltistan government is looking to arrange a winter sports festival. According to government officials, the festival will start in the month of December. The aim of this festival is to attract foreign visitors and showcase the country’s winter tourism potential. The whole of Gilgit-Baltistan is like a paradise for Adventure sports significantly for mountaineers, climbers, hikers, trekkers, and anglers.

This year, the government is expecting the arrival of a large number of domestic and international tourists on account of fewer coronavirus infections and the loosening of local travel restrictions as well as visas on arrival for 65 nationalities.

K2 Winter Summit

K2 is the only eight-thousanders that was not summited in the winter since last year. In February 2021 a Nepalese Sherpa team change history and summit K2 in the winter for the first time. Although more than 100 groups from all over the world were among those who tried to summit K2 in winter. Many of them lost their lives in this dangerous expedition.

Skardu International Airport

PIA starts flights from Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Sialkot, and Multan. In the summer season, a lot of tourists from these cities take advantage of this opportunity. The tourist flow in Skardu is too much this summer. Skardu Airport is Now ready for international flights. Civil Aviation Authority has officially announced the status of the International Airport. Flight operation may start from 2nd December. Skardu airport is now upgraded to all weather. Flights will now operate even in harsh weather conditions. Especially in the Winter season weather remain mostly cloudy. This up-gradation is definitely a good initiative to boost winter tourism.

Ice Hockey Championship

The government of Gilgit-Baltistan and the District administration of Skardu and Hunza organize the Ice Hockey championship. A total of 20 teams from all over Pakistan participate in the Hunza Ice hockey championship. The main aim of these competitions was to provide awareness about climate change in the region. In Hunza, championships were organized in previous years also. District administration Skardu organized the first-ever competition in Skardu, Baltistan region.
