The Upper Kachura Lake another wonderful lake located in Kachura valley Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan. Also called as “Froq xho” locally. The water of the lake is clean, clear and ice-cold and has a depth of almost 70 meters. The trip to SKARDU is not complete if Upper Kachura Lake is not visited. Lake in between the majestical Skardu Valley mountains.
It’s approximately 30 minutes drive from Skardu city to Kachura. It takes around 15 minutes to walk from Parking to Lake and one really enjoys that walk as the track passes through beautiful village and Fruit trees. The trees gather beautiful shadows and many of the buildings are very old. The combination of the lake and the lush green fields is especial.
As you pass through a small village you experience the local culture too. The neighborhood around the spot is simple yet charming. Nature lovers can enjoy a good natural environment there.
The lake has boating options and few restaurants in the surroundings. The walkway down the lake is a little steep (stairs) get slippery during rain. It is called a hidden lake because you have to walk down the mountain to reach the lake. Boat rides are available you can enjoy boat rides as well.
There is a bridge where large vehicles are not allowed to cross. Smaller vehicles can go further and save about half the walk. One must try boating and the famous Trout Fish there. There is a boat service if you want to roam and explore the whole lake. This beautiful place is much famous for its trout fish.
In summer it has a temperature of 15 °C (59 °F). In winter the surface is frozen solid. A hidden gem indeed. lots of fish and an astonishing turquoise blue tone of absolutely clean water. The lake is not fed by any stream.
